Myxobolus spp. (Cnidaria: Myxobolidae) in the circulating blood of fishes from Goiás and Mato Grosso States, Brazil: case report

Abstract Myxosporidiosis is an infectious disease caused by myxozoans of the Phylum Cnidaria, Class Myxosporea, and Order Bivalvulida, considered a common parasite in fresh saltwater fishes that parasitize many organs, especially gills. In present study, 49 specimens belonging to eight genera: Tetragonopterus, Leporinus, Myleus, Pirinampus, Rhapiodon, Pygocentrus, Ageneiosus, Serrasalmus were collected blood smears made, fixed with absolute methanol, stained Giemsa 10% survey hemoparasites. However, myxospores found circulating five (10.20%) genus Pygocentrus. Two morphological types Myxobolus spp. identified all fish analyzed. Usually, investigations on are carried out search for plasmodia or cysts organs observation cavity organs. Nevertheless, this study highlights importance also examining these animals, since parasites can cause severe pathogenic diseases fish. Thus, analyses proportionate preventive sanitary control commercial avoiding economic loss.
